avani is the sanskrit word for "earth"

avani symbolizes talent, judgement, sensitivity, beauty, resourcefulness, richness, practicality, stability and dependability.

avani design is managed by smita sawai, (an award winning graphic designer with over 20 years of experience in business, non-profit and university contexts).

Smita Sawai is a director of avani-design, a graphic and web design firm that specializes in variety of communication projects. Projects include brochures, posters, logo design, corporate identity, annual reports, stationary, magazines, invitations, web design and interface design etc.

Prior to starting avani-design in 2007, Smita was a web developer and a graphic designer for the College of Education at MSU for nine years. Previously she also worked as a graphic designer at Phoenix Inc at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. She also worked as a freelance designer and an instructor at Purdue University, West Lafayette where she taught graphic design and technology to undergraduate students.

Her experience in graphic design and web design covers a range of projects that showcase creativity, boldness, subtlety and sensitivity. Her work has received number of awards over the years and she was also recognized as an employee of the month at MSU.

She has a Bachelor’s degree in advertising from Nagpur University, India, Master’s degree in Visual Communication from Industrial Design Center, IIT, Bombay and another Master’s degree in Graphic Design from Iowa State University.

She resides in Okemos, Michigan with her husband and two kids.
